Filmmaker panel #1: "The Art of Cinema Audio Description: Beyond Compliance" with Nathan Geering (Still a Slave), Amelia Zhou (Flight Paths), and Alison Myers (Lobster), moderated by audio description advocate, producer, and voice actor Thomas Reid. Superfest not only seeks to provide audio description so that blind and low vision attendees can participate, but also strives to go beyond compliance and celebrate films that demonstrate what access can add to the art of cinema. Don't miss your chance to dive in deep with these experienced audio description filmmakers, whose films all demonstrate that access can enhance a film's creativity.
Filmmaker panel #2: "A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Sign Night and Deaf Filmmaking during COVID-19," with Sign Night director Cathy Mager, star Vilma Jackson, and moderated by aspiring Deaf filmmaker Topher González Ávila. The film Sign Night was selected as the 2021 juror's choice award, praised for its timely response to communication isolation for the Deaf community during the pandemic and the twist of fantasy it brings. Check out this panel for a behind the scenes look at how the film got made and you'll soon understand why this film won the jurors' hearts.
